Throwing back to the week of April 3, 2004, we find Usher’s ‘Yeah!’ in the middle of its 12-week run at #1. In the second spot is another repeat, Chingy’s ‘One Call Away.‘
That brings us to #3, where 17-year-old rapper J-Kwon’s ‘Tipsy,’ an ode to underage drinking, casual sex, and misogyny camped out on its way to an eventual peak at #2. This was J-Kwon’s first and only hit, with follow-up single ‘You & Me’ topping out at #58.
J-Kwon hasn’t released new music since 2010, which had me wondering what he must be up to now. Did he make enough money off of his one hit to retire? Or is he holding down a day job somewhere?
I found that he’s still active on Instagram, where he describes himself as an award-winning songwriter and says he is available for bookings via his gmail address. He’s also on Cameo.
His most recent Instagram post highlights Houston weatherman Adam Krueger, who works the lyrics of songs into his televised forecasts. He recently featured ‘Tipsy’ and the video makes for a fun watch.
