My final feature from Pitchfork’s list of 2023’s best songs is the electro-pop track ‘Shiver’ by Swedish act Fever Ray (a project by musician Karin Dreijer).
This is the sort of Bjork-ian weirdness that music critics seem required to like. One of the reasons I’m glad I’m a fan and not a critic is the lack of responsibility to keep up with artists and songs like this.
That’s a bit harsh. I don’t hate this song. It’s just not for me.
My wife often says “that’s not why I go to the movies” when opting not to see a film that’s too artsy or disturbing or experimental, and I echo her sentiments here by saying “this isn’t why I listen to music.”
Just a little touch
Just a little touch
Just a little touch
[Verse 1]
Killer skies
Thick thighs
Some girls will make you blush
Some girls will make you shiver
Needle highs
All vibes
Some girls you wanna thrust
Some girls you wanna see shiver
[Chorus]
I just wanna be touched
I just wanna shiver
Can I trust–
(You?)
I just wanna shiver
[Verse 2]
One million lumens
Trophy human
You still haven’t met
But you need to reset
Though you haven’t met them yet
It all started with a shiver

[Outro]
I just wanna shiver
I just wanna shiver
I just wanna shiver
I just wanna shiver
I agree. This is not why I listen to music.
