The sixth best song of 2023, according to Pitchfork, is SZA’s ‘Kill Bill.’ I featured it back in April, when it was in the top five of the Hot 100. No argument from me on this one — it’s a great song.
In the 7th spot is ‘Super Shy’ from K-pop group NewJeans. This is the lead single from the girl group’s second EP, and it was a big hit in South Korea before making a minor splash in the U.S. (it reached #48 on the Billboard Hot 100).
I can’t begin to keep track of all the K-pop bands crossing over to international stardom, but I will say I like the frothy kick of the songs I do hear. And I tend to prefer the girls to the boys. I can’t imagine naming ‘Super Shy’ the seventh best song of the year, but I kinda dig it.

I think you will get some argument from our daughter over girl vs boy K-pop bands, as I know she is a big fan of BTS.
I do think it’s very cool how these bands blend the languages so seamlessly into these songs.
