I’m closing out the week with another viral hit, this one refreshingly free of political baggage. Indeed, ‘Planet of the Bass’ has a more unifying idea: “World peace!”
This song started as a TikTok clip by comedian Kyle Gordon and “content creator” Audrey Trullinger, who embodied the characters DJ Crazy Times & Ms. Biljana Electronica for a short parody of a Eurodance song/video.
That clip racked up hundreds of millions of views and led to follow-up versions featuring Gordon with two other women as his sidekick, a move that infuriated fans of Trullinger’s enthusiastic performance.
Fortunately, a promised full-length version of the song returned to its original cast, with a sly nod to the other two actresses in the video’s opening moments.
This is a glorious send-up of the 90s Eurodance movement, complete with broken English, random political messaging, sexual come-ons, and memorable catchphrases. Everybody movement!
