I served up two weeks of songs discovered by my younger daughter, Fiona, and now it’s my older daughter’s turn.
If I had to sum up Sophia’s musical taste in a word, it would be “gentle.” She went through a rap phrase a few years ago, and still finds time for an occasional Megan Thee Stallion song or the like, but she gravitates toward acoustic, melodic songs. When she’s not unearthing new artists, the “oldies” she favors are John Mayer, Eagles, Josh Rouse and Fleetwood Mac. She’s also a big Taylor Swift fan, and shares her dad’s love of Miranda Lambert.
Real Estate is a New Jersey-based band that AllMusic.com praises for their “breezy melodies, jangly guitars, relaxed vocals, and generally laid-back approach.” This is a great example of Sophia’s predominant musical vibe.
The quartet formed in the late 2000s and have released five well-received albums over the past decade-plus. This track comes from their 2017 release, In Mind.
Yellow afternoon
Golden in the evening
When you come home when you do
Play my song so softly
In a room without a view
I just wish I had someplace else to move
To tell you the truth
Other people get around
Constantly passing underground
I can hear that awful sound
How other people get around
It’s an unrelenting beam
On the one and on the three
That same tide that pulls you out
Each day will bring you back to me
Other people get around
Constantly passing underground
I can hear that awful sound
How other people get around
Looking forward to hearing Sophia’s picks. I like this one.
I heard that Taylor Swift fans are called Swifties.
Looking forward to your picks Sophie. This is a good one 😊
