It’s not just my 13-year-old who comes up with recommendations for new music. My 9-year-old does it as well.
Fiona’s latest discovery is a track called ‘Reality’ by Belgian DJ Lost Frequencies. The lead vocals of this track are by a Dutch singer and actor named Janieck Devy. I couldn’t find any real information about either of them online. Leave it to Fiona to serve up something this obscure.
She was introduced to the song by her music teacher, a scrawny young redheaded dude who gets inordinately excited about teaching the xylophone to elementary school kids. Actually, he has crafted this batch of suburban younguns into quite an impressive little jazz ensemble.
I like this song a lot. It sounds more like the work of an acoustic singer-songwriter than a DJ. Maybe that’s just how the Belgians roll.
Decisions as I go, to anywhere I flow
Sometimes I believe, at times I’m rational
I can fly high, I can go low
Today I got a million. Tomorrow, I don’t know
[Verse 1]
Stop claiming what you own, don’t think about the show
We’re all playing the same game, waiting on our loan
We’re unknown and known, special and a clone
Hate will make you cautious, love will make you glow
Make me feel the warmth, make me feel the cold
It’s written in our stories, it’s written on the walls
This is our call, we rise and we fall
Dancing in the moonlight, don’t we have it all?
[Chorus]
Decisions as I go, to anywhere I flow
Sometimes I believe, at times I’m rational
I can fly high, I can go low
Today I got a million. Tomorrow, I don’t know
[Verse 2]
Make me feel the warmth, make me feel the cold
It’s written in our stories, it’s written on the walls
This is our call, we rise and we fall
Dancing in the moonlight, don’t we have it all?
Typically, if I hear something like Belgian DJ, my eyes start rolling and I dismiss the notion that I would like the music out of hand. I have to admit though that this song isn’t what I expected. Fiona May have found a Belgian jewel.
Good choice Fiona!
