Song of the Day #2,257: ‘Over You (Live)’ – Miranda Lambert

miranda_lambert_concertI started the week with a live Miranda Lambert performance, so I’ll finish it the same way.

This viral video hit the web a week or so back. In it, Lambert is singing ‘Over You’ — a song about the death of husband Blake Shelton’s brother — when she approaches a young fan. The girl, 7-year-old Brooke Hester, is suffering from stage four cancer.

Hester handed Lambert a flower and Miranda was pretty much done for.

Unable to continue the song, she simply held the mic out and invited the crowd to handle the vocals. Such a lovely moment.

I wonder, though, what the people in the back who didn’t see the interaction with Hester thought was going on.

Weather man said it’s gonna snow
By now I should be used to the cold
Mid-February shouldn’t be so scary
It was only December
I still remember the presents, the tree, you and me

But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

Living alone here in this place
I think of you, and I’m not afraid
Your favorite records make me feel better
Cause you sing along
With every song
I know you didn’t mean to give them to me

But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

It really sinks in, you know, when I see it in stone

Cause you went away,
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

  1. Dana says:

    Wow, that’s powerful. So touching!

  2. Amy says:

I assume they saw the scene on the big screen, so there were probably as much crying going on in the audience as was going on on the stage. Meanwhile, I never knew that Blake had a brother who died. 😦
