Continuing my week of songs recommended by Jack Antonoff, of fun. and Bleachers, we arrive at ‘Be a Body’ by Grimes.
I’m somewhat familiar with Grimes because she showed up on a bunch of top ten lists a year back, but I’ve never really paid her much attention. I’ve featured one of her tracks on the blog but wasn’t very impressed by it.
But Antonoff is apparently a big fan. Here’s what he has to say about this song:
Nobody in the world sounds like Grimes. The elements shouldn’t make sense together, but then they’re actually brilliant.
I’m not really feeling this one, though. Electronica doesn’t normally do it for me and whatever elements Grimes is working with, they’re not enough to change my mind.
Cause I wanna go home
Ha ha ha ha oh oh oh oh
Feel the rhythm oh my god
So than what am I?
I close my eyes until I see
I don’t need hands to touch me
Be a Body
I lean on walls until I stand
I touch my face with my hand
Be a Body
So then what am I?
Be a Body
Sounds like Antonoff is prone to hyperbole….best pop song ever written….nobody in the world sound like…. This sounds like Enya gone electronica. Not my cup of tea either.
