Song of the Day #2,069: ‘Love Letters’ – Metronomy

metronomyAnother band mentioned briefly in the current Rolling Stone, Metronomy is an English electronica band that only recently added vocals to their repertoire.

‘Love Letters,’ the title song from their latest album, is an intriguing (though repetitive) little New Wave number. It’s catchy in a lo-fi, give them points for trying kind of way.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this track is its video, directed by Michel Gondry with the same low-budget homemade charm he brought to Be Kind Rewind.

Love letters
Love letters
Love letters
Love letters

Love letters, all I see
On every day I read
The bits of yellow paper
Addressed from you to me

And every day it shows
Inside a book of stamps
To tell you what I’m up to
And say just how I feel

You’ve got me writing
Love letters
I’ll always write you
Love letters

You’ve got me writing
Love letters
I’ll always write you
Love letters

From far across the sea
They fly from you to me
But still I get no sleep
Oh, my love, don’t be mad

Cause I’ll keep on writing
Love letters
I’ll keep on writing
Love letters
I’ll keep on writing
Love letters
I’ll keep on writing
Love letters

Love letters
Love letters

This is kinda new wave with a 60’s vibe. Not bad, and the video is cool.

Repetitive, but I do like the vibe. Interesting that Michel Gondry is selling his services as video director again (since I couldn’t seem to find any personal connection between him and this band).
