I’m closing out this week of new music with my second Fitz & the Tantrums purchase, the band’s new album More Than Just a Dream. I haven’t heard much of this one, either.
But I really like what little I have heard, including first single (and today’s SOTD) ‘Out of My League’ and ‘Fool’s Gold,’ the song that first caught my wife’s attention.
From what I’ve read, this album takes the neo-soul of the band’s debut and modernizes it a bit, introducing a dance club element. I can definitely hear that on this song, and I like this direction.
More than just a dream
Forty days and forty nights
I waited for a girl like you to come and save my life
All the days I waited for you
You know the ones who said I’d never find someone like you
‘Cause you were out of my league
All the things I believe
You were just the right kind
Yeah, you were more than just a dream
You were out of my league
Got my heartbeat racing
If I die don’t wake me
‘Cause you are more than just a dream
From time to time I pinch myself
Because I think my girl mistakes me for somebody else
And every time she takes my hand
All the wonders that remain become a simple fact
That you were out of my league
All the things I believe
You were just the right kind
Yeah, you were ore than just a dream
You were out of my league
Got my heartbeat racing
If I die don’t wake me
‘Cause you are more than just a dream
More, more, more, more, more, more,
More, more,
More than just a dream.
Putting a dance club element into their music (or anybody’s music) is a negative, not positive, direction for my personal taste. I like the first song you featured much better, and suspect I would like their first album better than their second.
I actually really like this song… even though it’s techno, it’s very cool and smooth, yet at the same time has some rock elements, not to be confused as trance. Maybe it’s just my generation.
My generation seems to like it quite a bit, too!
I like it too. Looks like it might have skipped the Dana generation. Daniel is brilliant and so cute too!
