Song of the Day #1,684: ‘Lonely boy’ – The Black Keys

black_keys_el_caminoThe Black Keys are another band that eluded me in 2012, even thought I’ve been vaguely aware of them for a couple of years now. I even downloaded their last album (Brothers) but I’ve yet to listen to it.

In late 2011, they released El Camino to universal acclaim and finally hit the big time with multiple awards (and an energetic performance) at this year’s Grammys.

The song that won those awards is ‘Lonely Boy,’ a burst of guitar-synth-drums adrenaline with a thrashing singalong chorus. This song is better than everything I featured from that Village Voice poll the past couple of weeks. What’s up with critics today?

I also love this video, a simple one-shot clip of a middle-aged man in slacks and a button-down shirt dancing his ass off.

Well I’m so above you
And it’s plain to see
But I came to love you anyway
So you tore my heart out
And I don’t mind bleeding
Any old time to keep me waiting
Waiting, waiting

Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting

Well your mama kept you but your daddy left you
And I should’ve done you just the same
But I came to love you
And I want to flee
Any old time you keep me waiting
Waiting, waiting

Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting

Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting

Now that guy deserves to reach for a bottled water!

I appreciate this song and this group more than I actually like them. I guess I just like my music a tad smoother.

I like this song and this video… The first time I ever heard it was on the radio, but I grew to like it and know more of the song and the band when it was the song played for the Warm Bodies trailer….
