Certainly was a great moment and I almost teared up watching it again. But I think my reaction would be the same if someone had simply hit play on a Etta James CD.
Shawn, yes it may have been moving either way…but watching a Black singer perform for the first Black president and his wife at the inauguration, and seeing what this clearly meant to Beyonce put added emotion to it that the James CD would not have duplicated.
So, we are taking Beyonce seriously now? Whoa. I’m going to turn on some Bessie Smith to clear my head. Is the explanation, “It’s Beyonce” only a comment on her looks which are frankly stunning? Because my point is only about the effect of her voice and music on me.
Just catching up with the blog, I love this song and the moment! On another note I do believe Beyonce starred in the movie about Etta James and did a great job.
