Song of the Day #1,077: ‘New York’ – Cat Power

Start spreading the news
I’m leaving today
I want to be a part of it
New York, New York

These Vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it
New York, New York

I wanna wake up in a city
That doesn’t sleep
To find the cream of the crop
At the top of the heap

These little town blues
Are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it
In New York

If I can make it there
I’ll make it anywhere
New York
It’s up to you, New York

Do you own this or did you just search for different versions of the song?

Interesting…I don’t realy like the original, so this kind of variation doesn’t bother me as much as it might bother others.

Interesting interpretation, not sure I like it better then Sinatra’s, but then again, this is not my favorite Sinatra song. She has a “Peggy Lee” sound, I think.

Cat Power? Where do you find these things? While agree that this isn’t my favorite Sinatra song, I do think this one is a bit too strange for my liking. I want the song belted – think Liza! It’s the city that never sleeps, for crying out loud!!
