Is it finally Deakins’ year?

Cinematographer Roger Deakins has been nominated for nine Academy Awards (including this year for True Grit) and he hasn’t won once.

Five of those nominations were for Coen Brothers films and he probably deserved to win every one of them. I’m hoping (and predicting, in this year’s Oscar pool) that he’ll finally take home the prize next month.

I agree! This was a beautiful film to watch, my fingers are crossed that he wins this year.

I can’t begin to express how little I care about whether this person of whom I have never heard wins an Oscar. However, this post does confirm, lest there be any doubt, just how big of a movie nerd you are:)

I think Dana’s comment confirms how silly (and willfully ignorant!) Dana is. I adore Roger Deakins. While I don’t know that this is the first Coen brothers film I’d reward him for, it certainly is a worthy contender. What will go against it? Social Network? Certainly was a striking looking film. 127 Hours? Inception? Also worthy contenders. Still, I’d rather see Hours win for editing and Inception for art direction, so let’s give this prize to Deakins! 🙂

I definitely would have given him the wins for Fargo and O Brother Where Art Thou. He lost for No Country For Old Men to There Will Be Blood, and I’m OK with that.

This year he’s up against Black Swan, Inception, The King’s Speech and The Social Network. I haven’t seen Swan but I’d go with Grit over the others.

127 Hours wasn’t nominated?! That’s crazy. Yeah, I’m rooting for Deakins all the way!
