Top Ten ‘Glee’ Performances
#10 – ‘Endless Love’ – Rachel & Mr. Schuester
And here’s the moment when all the Gleeks in the audience say “Hell yeah!”
As we approach the debut of Season Two of Glee (September 21), I am counting down my ten favorite musical moments of Season One. I’ll skip the weekends as usual and finish the countdown the day of the first new episode.
Unfortunately, Fox is pretty vigilant about pulling down clips from the show, so I’ve had to do some digging to find these scenes. I hope the assortment of Japanese and indie sites I’m linking to stay in business long enough for everybody to watch.
Today’s clip, ‘Endless Love,’ is a perfect example of what Glee does best — spinning the unlikeliest songs into pure TV magic. ‘Endless Love’ is a pretty but thoroughly corny song, Lionel Richie doing what Lionel Richie does. But as performed by glee club student Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and her teacher Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison), it’s not just a lovely ballad but comic gold.
Rachel develops one of those dangerous schoolgirl crushes on Mr. Shu and he’s powerless even as he sees it happening in front of him. They belt the song out, eyeing each other across the piano. Rachel moves in and Mr. Shu quickly moves a chair between them. The facial expressions on both sides are priceless.
Note: As tempting as it may be, please hold off on posting your own favorite Glee clips or songs until the end of the ten days. At that point, I’d love to hear everybody chime in with their own lists.
My love,
There’s only you in my life
The only thing that’s bright
My first love,
You’re every breath that I take
You’re every step I make
And I
I want to share
All my love with you
No one else will do…
And your eyes
Your eyes, your eyes
They tell me how much you care
Ooh yes, you will always be
My endless love
Two hearts,
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives have just begun
Forever
(Ohhhhhh)
I’ll hold you close in my arms
I can’t resist your charms
And love
Oh, love
I’ll be a fool for you,
I’m sure
You know I don’t mind
Oh, you know I don’t mind
‘Cause you,
You mean the world to me
Oh I know
I know
I’ve found in you
My endless love
Oooh, and love
Oh, love
I’ll be that fool
For you,
I’m sure
You know I don’t mind
Oh you know-
I don’t mind
And, yes
You’ll be the only one
‘Cause no one can deny
This love I have inside
And I’ll give it all to you
My love
My love, my love
My endless love

You definitely know your audience:)
I never liked this song, but I do love this scene.
Oh, this is going to be a fun time! I agree, I’m not a fan of this song, but the scene is priceless.
Hell Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 I have been absent from commenting due to excessive business over the past several weeks, and while the pace is not slowing down any time soon, you can count on my presence for this countdown! 🙂
This was one of my favorite scenes from the first half of the season. The song was a favorite of mine (yes, it’s true) when I was a little kid. I would listen to the 45 on the record player in Heather’s room over and over and over. But what I loved most about this scene was the voiceover throughout it.
Kurt saying he would sing it with Finn but that he’d get the Diana Ross part was classic. But when Mr. Shu is recognizing that look in Rachel’s eyes as she chases him around the piano and says “Crap, she looks crazy right now!”, I die laughing every time. The show is magical and its scenes like this one that keep me coming back week after week (after week, after week…. through the magic of DVD). 🙂
Thanks for the Glee love on your blog.
I have to agree with Kerrie on three points:
1. Hell Yeah!!!!!!!!!!
2. I loved the original song and played my little 45 endlessly
3. What makes this scene so great is the commentary. “Full commando” and “good oral hygiene is very important to me” being two of my favorites in addition to the lines Kerrie mentions above.
This is definitley one of the funniest acted out scenes in Glee history 🙂 I agree with what everyone else pretty much said, so I don’t really have much to add… ^_^
