Song of the Day #171: ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ – New Order

neworderTomorrow I will begin the countdown of my ten favorite songs of 2008, so I’m taking a breather now and highlighting the 80s classic ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ by New Order.

I have nothing of interest to say about this song except that I dig it.

Also, it inspired the moniker of Spanish rock band Triángulo de Amor Bizarro. Ah, Wikipedia!

    Ha 🙂
I look forward to the countdown. And this song (or, at least, this song of the day) has the distinction of being the first one I heard just after it was posted at midnight. Not sure it’s the most lulling music to hear before heading off to sleep… oh well.

The video is a bit psychedelic, but the song is catchy enough.

wow, very 80’s, and very much not my cup of tea. I just have very little interest in the whole electronica sound. Of course, much of it is the 80’s production. It would be interesting to hear this song with more modern or even acoustic (real instruments) performance rather than the drum machine and tacky keyboard. I remember when Depeche Mode was all the rage, as well as Duran Duran, and I just couldn’t get that crazy for it, but once in a while I would hear a song by them that was less electronic and you could really appreciate the craftsmanship of the song so much more.

This is one of those 80s classics that’s been covered a hundred times. Frente had a hit with it several years ago:

You mean THE Frente!:) Never heard of her, but, yes, that is a much better version to my ear.

It’s always nice when somebody is a one-hit wonder with somebody else’s song. And it turns out that was way back in ’94.

This is one of my favorite songs. I made a cd of songs I love to have in the car and this is number 6 (they’re in no particular order, by the way).

When I was in college, I would blast this song (in fact, I’d blast the cd it came from, Substance), while getting ready to go out on a weekend or just needing to blow off some steam. The electronica sound is one that I happen to like very much, so New Order (and Depeche Mode and Duran Duran – since they were mentioned) were always among my favorites. Actually, I did prefer Duran Duran’s earlier, less electronic stuff, but that’s specific to them. 🙂

Thanks for changing it up a bit with this one.
