I searched my collection for songs with the word “turkey” in the title but had no luck. Imagine that… more than 8,000 songs and nobody thought to call one ‘Turkey Time’ or ‘The Battle of Turkey.’ I own 15 songs with the word “Christmas” in the title, so I won’t have any trouble a month from now.
So I moved on from turkey to “thank” and hit on this song from Dido’s debut album.
Most people probably first heard this song in a very different context — as the backing track to Eminem’s excellent song ‘Stan.’ That was my introduction to it as well, and I remember being surprised by the uplifting chorus after hearing the moody verse on a loop in Eminem’s haunting tale of fan obsession. I think ‘Stan’ is a better song than this one, but it certainly owes a large part of its greatness to Dido’s track.
Dido is an artist I can’t get too excited about, but her first album is very strong in a sort of Sarah McLachlan-wannabe way. This song is one of the best things on it.
Back to the holiday. I’m thankful this year, as always, for my family. And for President-Elect Barack Obama’s big win. And I’m thankful for everybody who has taken the time this past year to read my musings on songs and movies and offer their own opinions. I’ll keep going if you will! 🙂

I don’t think I realized this song was called “Thank You” until today, despite the fact that I’ve listened to it quite a few times on its own, as well as listening to it within the overwhelmingly powerful “Stan,” the song which forced me to reconsider Eminem and rap music.
I, too, am thankful for my family – immediate and extended, for rediscovering old friends through Facebook and connecting with new ones, for music 🙂 (and this blog, which adds to my understanding and appreciation of songs I’ve known and loved and those I’d never heard before), and for lots more, but I’ll stop there 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving!!
I didn’t get around to seeing this post until the day after Thanksgiving. But I too wish to offer thanks to the blog master and his family, who cooked one hell of an upside down turkey!
I am now off to Universal Studios to watch my daughter cross into teenager-hood while riding upside down on the Hulk. (actually that doesn’t sound right, does it?)
Thank you for allowing me to comment on your blog, despite your absurdly backward views on Carly Simon..
(Okay, THIS post is from Dana:))
What about Carly Simon? I love Carly Simon! Great voice. And Dido… I lke her too and this whole album.
