I could go on forever about Fiona Apple, one of my very favorite artists. She’s released only three albums in 12 years but still ranks at the very top of a very long list. Hell, she’s even one of the inspirations for my youngest daughter’s name (it’s Fiona… we didn’t pull a Gwyneth Paltrow).
Apple has done a lot of these record store appearances, many of which are available on YouTube. This one if a cover of ‘After You’ve Gone,’ a tune from the early 20th century. I believe that is producer extraordinaire Jon Brion playing the guitar beside her.
I went with this song because it’s a pleasant little ditty but also because toward the end of the clip she screws up a lyric and we’re treated to the rarest of sights… a Fiona Apple smile. It’s the sort of genuine moment that makes these live videos interesting.
So nice how many quite popular artists are able to pull off these record store performances. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next! š
Ah, if only Fiona’s smiles could provide energy to the planet, we would all perish in darkness:)
Enjoyed the song and the screw-up, like this theme a lot š
I find her boring.
š that was just for insulting our son’s namesake, Mr. James Taylor.
She’s got a great voice, perfect for this kind of song. I don’t know much of her beyond the videos and the hits. Listening to this song, I think I’d like her albums better than I ever realized I would. And, yes, the blunder is priceless.
