Song of the Day #1,685: ‘Love Interruption’ – Jack White

jack_white_blunderbussAnother memorable Grammy performance came courtesy of Jack White, who released his first solo album early in 2012 after fronting what seems like a dozen different bands.

A solo Jack White album isn’t really as novel an idea as it might seem… pretty much everything he touches belongs to him, regardless of the other players. But the first single, ‘Love Interruption,’ has a really nice low-key, sultry vibe that sets it apart from much of his work.

Again, I’m confused why this song didn’t end up high on the Village Voice poll, especially given White’s continued popularity with critics. I think somebody decided — in some secret music critic retreat — that 2012 was the year of slow-jam R&B and everybody just followed suit.

In another year, it might have been Jack White, The Black Keys, The Shins and Fiona Apple dominating the song list (though to be fair, Apple’s The Idler Wheel… did show up third on the album list).

I want love to, roll me over slowly
Stick a knife inside me, and twist it all around.

I want love to, grab my fingers gently
Slam them in a doorway, put my face into the ground.

I want love to, murder my own mother and
Take her off to somewhere like hell or up above.

I want love to change my friends to enemies,
Change my friends to enemies and show me how it’s all my fault.

I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
Yeah I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me anymore.

I want love to, walk right up and bite me
Grab a hold of me and fight me leave me dying on the ground.

And I want love to, split my mouth wide open and
Cover up my ears and never let me hear a sound.

I want love to, forget that you offended me
Or how you have defended me when everybody tore me down.

Yeah I want love to change my friends to enemies,
Change my friends to enemies and show me how it’s all my fault.

Yeah I wont let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me anymore.

This song has a very 60′s vibe to me, which I like. Don’t know much about White’s music, but I enjoyed the Grammy performance and suspect I might like other songs from this pasty man.

Well we can’t all be blessed with your level of melatonin! But I like it too. I like the passion in the lyrics.
