Song of the Day #1,662: ‘Bad Girls’ – M.I.A.

mia_bad_girlsThe song that came up most often in my Web research on the best videos of 2012 was this one — M.I.A.’s ‘Bad Girls.’

The combination of excellent cinematography and the sociopolitical statement of depicting Muslim women driving proved irresistible for many critics.

Indeed, this is a compelling (and entertaining) video. The culture clash between Muslims in traditional garb in a desert setting and the stunt car theatrics of the Western world (including most rap videos) is intriguing.

And of course M.I.A. remains one of the most interestingly beautiful artists working today, and she has that killer British accent.

[Hook 1]
Live fast, die young
Bad girls do it well
Live fast, die young
Bad girls do it well
My chain hits my chest
When I’m banging on the dashboard
My chain hits my chest
When I’m banging on the radio

[Hook 2]
Get back, get down
Pull me closer if you think you can hang
Hands up, hands tied
Don’t go screaming if I blow you with a bang

Suki Zuki
I’m coming in the Cherokee
Gasoline
There’s steam on the window screen

Take it, take it
Wheel’s bouncing like a trampoline
When I get to where I’m going, gonna have you trembling

[Hook 1]

Yeah back it, back it
Yeah pull up to the bumper game
Yeah with a signal
Cover me, cause I’m changing lanes

Had a handle on it
My life, but I broke it
When I get to where I’m going, gonna have you saying it

[Hook 1 & Hook 2]

I’m not sure how they do that car on two wheels stunt, but I sure as hell wouldn’t be sitting on top of the car when they are doing that!
