Everyone associates different things with songs, but I associate with love. It is such a powerful love song. I’d guess that maybe it doesn’t affect those of you that much because maybe you’re not in love/cannot rummage back into the depths of your memories about a love you once felt, even?

Besides, I wonder how apparent the differences would be after compression/upload. I’ve found that the improvement is most apparent playing the CDs on a good sound system.

But at other times, like now when I am sitting in my office listening on the computer, it doesn’t do much for me.

I assume that the version you linked here is not the remastered one, is it? If not, I would be curious to hear the difference with the new release.

I can understand why hearing this song, in those circumstances, made it all the more powerful for you. As someone who considers herself more than a “casual” fan but far from a Beatles aficionado, I admit I’m unfamiliar with this song. The only of their albums I regularly listen to in their entirety are Revolver and Rubber Soul. I doubt I’ve ever heard the entire White Album, so you’ve piqued my interest in getting the remastered version of it.

All that said, this song doesn’t do much for me on first listen. My guess is the very qualities that make it work so well for that lonely early morning drive are the ones that make it less effective at any other time of the day :) “Something,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and, especially, “Here Comes the Sun” are among my favorite Beatles songs of all time, but I can’t say Harrison’s “Long, Long, Long” will join them.
