Celebrity Girlfriends – #1 Jennifer Garner

May 20, 2008 at 2:52 pm (celebrity girlfriends)

The “veteran” on this list, Jennifer Garner high-kicked her way into my consciousness in 2001 as Sydney Bristow, the grad student/super spy at the center of the wonderfully addictive TV show Alias. The show itself was ground-breaking, combining big-screen production values and an addictive mythology with the personal journey of a flawed, very human “superhero,” who happened to be a woman. It was a premise that would soar or fall flat based completely on its lead actress, and Garner knocked it out of the park.

To borrow a comment I once heard a sportscaster make about running back Terrell Davis, Garner‘s strength is that she has no weaknesses. She is beautiful, in fantastic shape, down-to-earth, funny and talented. She is equally adept at playing action (Alias), comedy (13 Going on 30) and drama (Juno and, again, Alias), making her the sort of triple threat rarely found in Hollywood, and maybe never before among female actors.

I toyed with putting others at the top of this list, but in the end I came back to the woman who was the inspiration for the first list of this sort that I posted online, back when I was blown away by the first season of Alias. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s still here in another 7 years.

So there you have it, Jennifer Garner is Celebrity Girlfriend #1, and with that, this series is complete.

My guess was that this would be your first choice. I found her to be so touching in Juno and became a fan of hers then. I’ve seen her in other movies and thought she was good but not as special as her performance in Juno, and she reminds me a little of Julia Roberts (her looks).

I didn’t think of her at all, but then I haven’t contemplated for all that long on who you might be honoring in this way :-)
Having never seen a frame of Alias, I won’t hold Daredevil against her and will instead think of the poignant action turn she gave in The Kingdom. She is a first-rate actress, and I’m pleased to see that talent and intelligence were as important as looks when you chose your “girlfriends.”
